Further report: Apple is working on a new home product – is the surveillance camera coming? | News

Rumors about new HomeKit hardware are constant and characterized by shifts. It was actually planned that a “HomePad” would appear by the end of 2025 at the latest – this should be based on the existing HomePod concept and expanded to include a touchscreen. But delays in completing the LLM-based voice assistant Siri delayed the product launch. At the same time, Apple is said to be working on other types of devices; One of these could consist of a standalone sensor package for home security purposes, reports Mark Gurman in his John Ternus profile.

The device is listed internally with the model name “J540”. According to Gurman, this is a rather small device that is primarily intended for home surveillance purposes. Rumors about such a product became public as early as August 2025 – the focus at that time was on a smart home camera. According to the report at the time, the battery-operated prototype combines a powerful camera with infrared sensors. Integrated facial recognition should enable automatable functions, such as lighting control and music playback according to individual preferences.

Third in the league
Apple’s own HomeKit camera would make sense – with HomeKit Secure Video, Apple offers a cloud-based and encrypted streaming and storage option for compatible cameras. Suitable devices are currently available from Eve and Aqara, for example. The service is part of iCloud+ and, depending on the amount of storage, allows the use of one, five or unlimited HomeKit-compatible surveillance cameras. In addition to the battery-powered home monitoring sensor and display-equipped HomePad, Apple is said to be working on a third device for a smart home that can move independently – for example in the form of a touchscreen installed on a rotating and pivoting arm. Gurman did not comment on possible release dates for the three devices.
