How Steve Jobs convinced Tim Cook to join Apple
Tim Cook, for example, describes the first conversation with Jobs in 1998, when Apple was in massive financial trouble. Jobs convinced him to join the company and help turn things around. Although he was advised at the time to reconsider the step because of the uncertain situation, any skepticism disappeared the moment Jobs spoke about his vision. He was deeply impressed by his passion and clarity.
Looking back, Cook describes joining Apple as the best decision of his life. In Jobs he found a mentor who inspired him to surpass himself and take on new challenges. Instead of just taking on a new job, he found a task that drives him to this day.
Lots more writing – as a free book
In addition to the Cook letter, the archive also published letters from other personalities, including Apple’s former head of design Jony Ive, Disney CEO Bob Iger and industrial designer Dieter Rams. There is also a new introductory letter from Laurene Powell Jobs. Some of the contributions have been available for a long time, but many are released to the public for the first time.
The complete collection can be read in the free book “Letters to a Young Creator”. That book title is based on Rainer Maria Rilke and his “Letters to a Young Poet” – the work, translated into English as “Letters to a Young Poet”, was one of Steve Jobs’ favorite writings. According to the description, Jobs used Rielke’s letters as inspiration for his own creative approach.
