Ferrari Luce: dashboard from Apple’s ex-designers | News

The Ferrari Luce is an automobile that combines many firsts: The Italian sports car manufacturer has not yet released a five-seater, the electric drive is also terra incognita for the car manufacturer, and it is also the first driver’s console for the company LoveFrom, founded by Jony Ive and Marc Newson, which it designed (and brought to market). In the presentation of the four-door car, which will be released later this year, the design language of the Apple designers can be clearly recognized – even if only on the inside.

Style-defining elements, how could it be otherwise, are rounded rectangles made of aluminum and glass. The dashboard and the control element in the center console are reminiscent of dashboard widgets from early Mac OS X versions. Unlike the iPhone and iPad, LoveFrom turns its back on the widespread touch interface and relies on physical switches that can be turned or pressed in the Ferrari. The aluminum steering wheel is complemented by (rounded) triangles on which there are tactile controls – whoever wants to operate them doesn’t have to take their eyes off the road.

Would Project Titan have looked like this?
The speedometer and tachometer are round, as is the clock – the latter is also analog. Of course, multifunctional displays continue to be used where it makes sense. However, the majority of the controls, at least as it appears in the published images, are tactile. When Jony Ive was still working as a designer at Apple, he is said to have been significantly involved in the design of the car project “Project Titan”, which was ended unsuccessfully in February 2024.

Unusual design
The manufacturer praises the exterior as extremely aerodynamic – the Luce is said to have “the lowest drag coefficient in Ferrari history”. The sound of the electric car also took a long time to be refined: microphones pick up the electromechanical vibrations of the axles in order to create a convincing vrrooom using sound effects and amplification.

Stock market value falls
The four-door debut with an electric motor can already be pre-ordered; The first copies are expected to arrive at customers by the end of the year. The standard configuration with four-wheel drive (772 kW/1,050 hp) and 122 kWh battery will cost around 550,000 euros. After the presentation of the Ferrari Luce, the company’s shares lost value, at times the price was eight percent lower than the previous day.
