ⓘ Lego Ideas
A fan of Sony’s most ambitious and powerful handheld console at the time, the Sony PSP, which became the first serious challenger of its time to Nintendo and sold 85 million units over its entire life cycle, is now trying to keep the system’s legacy alive. He submitted a 333-piece Lego set for the original Sony PSP-1000.
The PSP lives on with new projects and ports thanks to the homebrew and modding community. In an effort to preserve the legacy of the retro handheld, a PSP fan named yakyah recently submitted a Sony PSP concept made up of 333 Lego pieces to the Lego Ideas website, dedicated to the original, thicker PSP-1000.
The Lego PSP captures the striking yet elegant look of the handheld surprisingly accurately, from the curved housing to the control pad, the silver shoulder buttons and action buttons to the single recessed analog stick and the 16:9 screen. The Lego builder achieved this using Slope pieces and SNOT bricks to recreate the smooth curves of the PSP without any “illegal” building techniques.
What’s notable is that the Lego PSP concept even includes the power switch on the side and the yellow charging port. Additionally, the Lego PSP also features a pull-out UMD tray with a demo disc inside.
An idea inspired by a trip back to childhood
So how did Yakyah come up with the idea for a Lego PSP? In the description on Lego Ideas, he wrote: “While visiting my parents’ house during spring cleaning, I found my PSP in a box. It immediately brought back many fond memories. This led me to start working on a replica of the device as a decorative, interactive model to hopefully give other fans of the device a similar feeling as I did.”
He also described his creative Lego building process, explaining: “This model was created using Bricklink Studio, a digital Lego building platform, without the use of ‘illegal’ building techniques. There are no collisions between the bricks, and the internal structure is fully developed.”
The Lego PSP-1000 project went live on Lego Ideas on April 1, 2026 and has already received the support of more than 700 people. There are almost 424 days left to reach the first milestone of 1,000 votes. However, in order for Lego to seriously consider implementing the Lego PSP-1000 as a real Lego set together with Sony, yakyah needs 10,000 supporters before the deadline.

I am a UAE-based tech writer who likes to build and benchmark PCs both professionally and as a hobby. I contribute to multiple tech publications, including TechRadar and Notebookcheck, as well as Game Rant, where I focus primarily on news, commerce, and buying guides. When I’m not scouring the internet for the latest in tech stories, you will find me playing a game of Civilization or DotA with friends and frenemies alike while dropping recommendations for Apple TV+’s Foundation to everyone I come across.

The technology bug infected me at a young age when I took my first steps in the PC sector back in the Pentium II era. Since then, modding, overclocking and meticulously maintaining my hardware have been a part of my life. During my time as a student, I also developed a special interest in mobile technologies, which can make stressful everyday study life much easier. After I found my love for creating web content while working in marketing, I am now an editor at Notebookcheck in search of the most exciting topics from the fascinating world of technology. Outside of the office, I have a particular passion for motorsports and mountain biking.
