The SE100 now available are classic passive speakers in a two-way compact format. So conceptually nothing that the world hasn’t already seen. On the contrary. The market for such loudspeakers is incredibly huge. Even in the range well under 1,000 euros. With their pair price of 500 euros, the SE100 appeal to a huge audience. The only question is whether and what they can do better than the established competition.
This is where my first doubts arise. When it comes to complex electronics and software, there are many adjustments that can be made to make things different and better. But when it comes to passive compact speakers, the best software department is of little use because all theory and mathematics are gray when it comes to good speaker sound. And for the user there is nothing that can be controlled via an app.
Designing everything on the computer is the standard approach for inexpensive speakers in this class. There is no room here for complex listening tests with prototypes and trying out a wide variety of drivers, crossover components and housing designs to determine their sound properties for the respective system, because that would only make the speakers much more expensive. And the developers at eversolo apparently haven’t changed anything about the proven basic principle for two-way speakers. The wheel has definitely not been reinvented here.
Miracles don’t always happen, as Nena once sang. But maybe eversolo will surprise you with something special.
