Facebook Group Meta has introduced its own AI image generator, Muse Image. The software can not only create and edit images, but also access public Instagram content.
Meta is continuing to expand its AI offering and has introduced Muse Image, a new model for image generation. The AI software was developed at Meta Superintelligence Labs and is available via Meta AI.
According to the company, it is the group’s “most advanced imaging model to date.” “It implements instructions precisely, enables precise edits, creates compositions based on multiple references and uses Instagram for social context,” says a blog post accompanying the release.
What is and can Muse Image do?
Muse Image is similar to well-known AI image generators and works, among other things, using conventional prompts. However, Meta also offers so-called “presets” for users who don’t have their own ideas for command input.
It is also possible to access the images of other Instagram users via Muse Image and edit them with the AI. The prerequisite is that the profile is public and the person has not expressly objected to its use. If the newly created image is to be posted, the original author simply needs to be marked in the image.
This feature of the new AI tool has already caused widespread criticism. This is because real people can appear in AI-generated photos without express prior consent. This raises numerous questions regarding privacy and copyright.
Muse Image also offers the option of creating individual advertisements or testing different interior designs. The latter function will be introduced on the classifieds portal Facebook Marketplace in the future and will offer the opportunity to view used furniture in advance in your own four walls.
Muse Image: Edit Instagram images with AI
Using AI-powered image editing, Muse Image can, for example, remove elements or people from photos, change the background or create QR codes. Because the tool is closely linked to the Meta universe, edited images can be shared directly across Meta’s various apps and platforms.
Additionally, Muse Image offers new options for Instagram Stories. Here Meta has introduced new AI effects based on Muse Image. These effects include customizable filters that can be used to modify existing photos.
In the USA, users can already access the new feature in Instagram Stories. Muse Image is already available in WhatsApp in select countries. However, the US company does not say exactly what these are.
However, the AI software should be available in more and more countries in the future. The introduction to Facebook will also follow shortly, as will the sister software Muse Video.
According to Meta, the new AI model can initially be used free of charge for “everyday creative designs”. However, anyone who exceeds certain usage limits will need a paid subscription.
