discovered my new hobby with Tombow and FSG.ART

After a little creative break on Fashionblonde, I’m back with creative news: I’ve discovered a love for hand lettering. I’ve had the bullet journal fever for a few years now, admired the people who design such books, but never really dared to paint and type myself. It looks so incredibly difficult, but it’s just practice and a little journey back in time to elementary school. It’s a bit like going through the writing course again and learning “cursive writing”. I took a workshop with lovely Hannah from FSG.ART. She explained it so incredibly well. It was three hours that almost seemed meditative to me. I learned a lettering alphabet she created (here), wrote it and got creative at Christmas time. I already knew at home that it would be my new hobby. It’s good for me, it slows me down, it lets me get creative and just switch off. I practiced a lot and soon booked the next course with Hannah: Blending. And all of a sudden I realized that hand lettering isn’t rocket science, that great pictures aren’t difficult at all. I love my new hobby and am happy to share it with you. In the pictures you can see some works from the “Blending” workshop, some exercise sheets from me and the lettering alphabet from Hannah (you can order it here).

Pens from Tombow

In the course we learned about the versatile pens from Tombow. The brush pens (here) have two sides. This means you can write on one side with a tip similar to a felt-tip pen. The other side has the “brush” pen, which is ideal for lettering. But what I liked so much about the pens was that you can mix them with water and use them as “watercolor pens”. This allows you to achieve a wonderful “color gradient” effect by, for example, mixing two colors. By the way, Hanna said that her pens have lasted for years and not a single pen has “dried out” yet. An important purchasing decision for me. You want to enjoy it for as long as possible. You can either buy a nice set from Tombow (you can get mine here) or put the individual colors together one by one. By the way, I like to buy two colors that harmonize with each other. These sets (here) are my favorites. But there are also small “starter sets” with which you can get “creative” straight away. I learned hand lettering with this set (here).

Maybe you’ve become curious and want to write letters yourself. In any case, I wish you a creative time too. Sometimes you need a little break to be able to start again with new energy and muse.
