Competition to Apple credit card: Samsung Galaxy Card with up to five percent cash back | News

It has now been seven years since Apple entered the banking business. The “Apple Card” advertises that it does not charge users any fees. The integrated discount program called “Daily Cash” grants credit card users two percent on purchases and even three percent at Apple and selected retailers if they use Apple Wallet to pay. Apple Card is very popular among US users. Now Samsung wants to build on this success – with even higher discounts on its own products.

The Korean company is best known for the Galaxy series of smartphones. This then also provides the name sponsor for the credit card: The Samsung Galaxy Card will be launched for US customers on July 22, 2026. Like the Apple Card, it is a “co-branded” credit card. Barclays Bank operates in the background and Visa is used as the credit card system.

Huge discounts
As expected, Samsung wants to advertise its own solutions with its own credit card: Anyone who purchases directly from Samsung will receive a five percent refund. Customers receive credits worth three percent on all expenses processed using the in-house development “Samsung Wallet” (on a smartphone with Android 9.0 or newer). The Galaxy Card grants two percent on streaming services such as Netflix, Disney and Spotify; Customers receive one percent credit on all other purchases. There is an additional welcome bonus: Anyone who spends more than $2,000 within the first 90 days of receiving the Galaxy Card will receive a one-time credit worth $200.

(Not entirely) free of charge
An overview page reveals further details: There is no annual fee for providing the credit card. Transactions abroad are also free. Transfers to other accounts cost at least $5, cash withdrawals cost at least $10. Late or rejected payments cost users up to $41. Customers have to pay off everything purchased with the credit card every month, otherwise 23.49 to 32.24 percent annual interest will be due. For comparison: The Apple Card charges 17.49 to 27.74 percent.

Expansion to EU unlikely
If desired, a physical metal card can also be added to the virtual credit card; it is colored black and has the Samsung logo. Like the Apple Card, the Galaxy Card offering is tailored to the US market. It’s unlikely that Samsung will come up with a similar offering on the European continent any time soon – interest rates in the US are likely to be difficult to convey to EU users.
