Siri boss: First attempt didn’t work
According to Siri boss Mike Rockwell, Apple initially tried to gradually expand the existing Siri system. The company added new capabilities such as calling tools and app functions to the previous architecture. Such a version already worked internally, but not with satisfactory quality. The old technical basis obviously placed limits on further development. At the same time, an alternative draft was already available that required much more extensive changes. Apple therefore decided against the faster interim solution and in favor of a completely new building, according to the explanations. This meant being able to compete with Siri AI much later than originally thought.
Instead: demolition, new construction
Rockwell described the move as a complete change of course. Apple tore Siri down to its foundations and then completely rebuilt it. Apple’s new AI models and an architecture that is no longer retrofitted onto the previous Siri system now serve as the foundation. Rockwell cites the uniform technical basis across all Apple platforms as another advantage. Siri AI is available on iPhone, iPad and Mac as well as on Apple Watch, Vision Pro, in CarPlay and via AirPods. These are not several largely separate versions, but rather the same Siri technology with a common user experience.
