Both popular series are filled with creative and sometimes terrifying special powers, but each provides a very different take on a seemingly unstoppable ability that might even surpass characters like Gojo.
Episode #10 of Jujutsu Kaisen‘s fantastic season 3 first introduced Fumihiko Takaba, along with his ridiculous outfit and a glimpse of his even more wild abilities. However, his inclusion in episode #11 gave an even better explanation of his abilities that are incredibly similar to One Piece‘s own Monkey D. Luffy and the ultimate awakening of his Devil Fruit powers.
Jujutsu Kaisen Has Its Own Version Of Gear 5’s Ridiculous Powers

Throughout JJK’s anime, viewers have been introduced to an oeuvre of odd characters, including humanoid cursed spirits and jujutsu sorcerers of all walks of life, even some from the distant past. However, few can be considered as weird as the inspiring comedian, Takaba.
The Culling Game’s players have shown many fascinating abilities after having to participate in Kenjaku’s demented contest. But even the most sadistic of its participants can not fathom the abilities that Takaba has displayed in a battle that’s seen him shrug off several lethal attacks without taking any lasting damage.
Takaba’s first big fight in “Tokyo Colony No. 1, Part 5” has him facing a foe who violently explodes severed pieces of his own body, which could regenerate. This decimated large buildings, but could not leave any damage on Takaba that he didn’t find humorous. It wasn’t until the fight’s end that JJK’s narrator gave a proper explanation of Takaba’s ability.
The Reality-Bending Abilities of Takaba and Luffy Explained
As stated by JJK‘s narrator, “Takaba’s curse ability, Comedian, makes whatever he’s convinced would be funny a reality.” However, he has no knowledge that he has any powers at all. So far in the anime, Takaba’s ability has allowed him to survive fatal attacks without taking any lasting damage and even afforded him incredible strength that can send his foes flying through concrete.
The ability to bend reality to match one’s perspective is one that is as creative as it is broken. However, if its wielder is unaware of their capabilities, it provides the story’s author an opening to create almost any scenario. This is likely one of the reasons’ One Piece‘s Eiichiro Oda gave such an overwhelming ability to his world-famous protagonist.

Luffy once faced a foe many around One Piece’s world considered “The World’s Strongest Creature”, the Pirate Emperor Kaido. In their battle, the Straw Hat Captain unlocked the true potential of his Devil Fruit, which he dubbed Gear 5. The transformation allows Luffy to fight with maximum freedom, giving him the power to alter nearly anything around him how he sees fit.
Luffy’s awakened Devil Fruit abilities have shown him capturing lightning bolts and repurposing them for attacks and even using them like bungee cords. He later fashioned a tree into a baseball bat capable of smacking away attacks similar to nuclear bombs. Each new Gear 5 battle keeps coming up with new ways to surprise readers.
Among all the abilities that One Piece‘s Gear 5 has shown so far, one of its most interesting has been Luffy transforming and even conjuring items out of thin air with the power of his imagination. However, it is still not as effective as Jujutsu Kaisen‘s Takaba’s abilities.
Why Takaba’s Power Would Defeat Luffy’s Gear 5

Gear 5 Luffy has showcased many entertaining tactics with his newfound abilities, but he has proven that such an ability does have limitations that Takaba’s does not. Even though Luffy’s new form can go toe-to-toe with some of One Piece‘s strongest fighters, he hasn’t come out of those battles unscathed.
The overwhelming ability that lets Luffy do whatever he wants in battle has proven to be extremely exhausting for the young Pirate. After minutes of reality-altering fighting, Gear 5 wears off, leaving him looking extremely pale and aged. Afterward, he’s nearly useless until he can recharge his energy with food. Takaba’s ability does not seem anywhere near as draining.
10 Strongest Jujutsu Kaisen Characters of All Time, Ranked
While not everyone in Jujutsu Kaisen cursed energy, the strongest characters have dangerous techniques and high levels of cursed energy.
It’s likely that Takaba isn’t capable of the destructive power that Luffy can deliver. Still, he’s taken damage that no one else could without slowing down, all because if Takaba were to get hurt, he wouldn’t think that would be very humorous. Because of this, JJK‘s Comedian may truly be unstoppable as long as he continues to try to be funny.
To further entertain the argument, if Luffy found himself in the Culling Game, the two would likely hit it off and become great friends. However, if Gear 5 Luffy were to drop a similar attack that defeated Kaido, Takaba would likely take the attack, then arise from a hole in the ground shaped like him before delivering a cheesy joke.
Many of today’s most popular shonen anime series feature entertaining supernatural abilities that grow in complexity as their series continue. Jujutsu Kaisen takes little time to throw audiences into the deep end with its complex power structure and the god-like abilities its curse energy can perform.
One Piece‘s Devil Fruits continue to find new depths of lore and abilities to surprise its readers, even after nearly 30 years of being in publication. The series has been around long enough to have inspired a lot of storytellers who are working today, and it definitely will continue to inspire ideas for countless works in the future.
Authors Gege Akutami (Jujutsu Kaisen) and Eiichiro Oda (One Piece) have both developed some of the manga medium’s most interesting power systems that have kept their series incredibly engaging. Crafting powers like Luffy’s and Takaba’s allow them the freedom to perform whatever is fun to draw, something that fans obsessed with power-scaling have a difficult time grasping.
