AirPods Pro with cameras: development reportedly discontinued/suspended | News

If there was talk in various reports that Apple wanted to integrate cameras into a future generation of AirPods Pro, then of course these are not cameras for taking photos and filming. Instead, this refers to sensors that record the environment and can provide additional functions and evaluations based on this information. Siri’s “Visual Intelligence” in particular would be an obvious topic here, especially since Apple has already heard several times how important it considers the feature to be. After Mark Gurman recently reported that Apple was already in an advanced testing phase, leaker Kosutami is now coming out with a different tone.

“Suspended”, “Case closed”
After Kosutami had only provided a lot of information about AirPods Pro with additional infrared or optical sensors in February, two updated posts now say that the project is “suspended” and the case is “closed”. Unfortunately, no further information is available – whether this is a temporary break or whether Apple is burying the project completely. Bloomberg recently reported that there could be one reason why Apple might be delaying the release. If the visual intelligence of the new Siri generation is not sophisticated enough, Apple, unsurprisingly, does not want to stick to a market launch this year.

Bloomberg cited Siri as a possible problem
According to Bloomberg, the optimistic plan was once to be ready in the first half of 2026, but as we know there were significant Siri delays. Kosutami has made a name for himself in recent years with an extensive collection of unreleased prototypes and therefore apparently has internal sources at Apple or suppliers. Although the request to speak is short and rather thin, it cannot be completely ignored due to the previous success rate in product predictions.
