The startup scene’s relationship with Friedrich Merz is rather disharmonious. The Chancellor spoke at the German Startup Awards in Berlin last week. The reactions in the scene: polite, but sobered. Many founders had hoped for quick reforms and more economic development after the change in government. Instead, impatience is growing.
Florian Seibel, the founder of the drone startup Quantum Systems, is now resorting to more unusual means: the baton. He had a song produced by the Stern Stewart agency. Title: “Imagine a Moonshot”.
The style is based on soul. Musicians didn’t stand in the studio for this, but AI was used. Naturally.
Seibel had the track specially pressed onto a record and wanted to present it to the Chancellor at the awards. It is not known whether that worked.

What is Seibel about? The founder spelled out what was a bit indirect in the lyrics on Linkedin: it needed a clear vision and quick implementation. “Inaction leads to catastrophe.”
It is “about time, Mr. Merz,” writes Seibel. “We, the German economy, are behind you. Now it’s up to you to act. It won’t be easy. It will be difficult. But it’s worth it: together we can get this country back on track.”
Will the record help to get heard by the Federal Chancellor? Perhaps the jazz trumpeter Till Brönner should have been brought on board for this. Merz once called him his favorite star and personal friend. He is also a fan of classical music and likes to go to the Wagner Festival in Bayreuth.
If you wanted to choose a pathetic soundtrack for the drama between Merz and the start-up scene, Wagner might not be so bad after all.
