
The Bahamas strengthened its role in global tourism leadership as Tourism Minister Glenys Hanna-Martin led a delegation to key UN Tourism meetings in Paraguay. Discussions focused on sustainability, innovation, investment, resilience, and women’s leadership, reinforcing The Bahamas’ commitment to shaping the future of tourism across the Americas.
The Bahamas is reinforcing its commitment to international tourism cooperation as Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martinleads a national delegation to two major United Nations Tourism engagements in Asunción, Paraguay, from May 28–29.
The visit highlights The Bahamas’ active participation in global tourism policy discussions and its dedication to fostering sustainable and resilient tourism development through international collaboration.

As part of the program, Minister Hanna-Martin is scheduled to speak at the high-level forum, “The Future is Female: Shaping the Tourism of Tomorrow,” where global leaders and industry stakeholders will discuss the growing influence of women in tourism leadership, innovation, and sector transformation.
On May 29, the Bahamian delegation will participate in the 71st Meeting of the United Nations Tourism Regional Commission for the Americas (CAM). The gathering serves as a key platform for regional policy coordination and will bring together member states and international partners to address critical tourism issues, including sustainability, connectivity, investment, innovation, resilience, and regional cooperation.
Officials say the meetings provide an opportunity for The Bahamas to advance national priorities while contributing to broader international efforts aimed at creating a more inclusive and sustainable tourism industry.

“The Bahamas remains committed to strong international engagement and meaningful collaboration as tourism continues to evolve globally,” Minister Hanna-Martin said. “These meetings provide an important opportunity to strengthen relationships, exchange ideas, and contribute to discussions that will help shape the future direction of tourism.”
The mission marks Minister Hanna-Martin’s first official international tourism engagement since assuming the portfolio, signaling the government’s continued focus on strengthening partnerships and enhancing The Bahamas’ role within the global tourism community.
The delegation also includes Director General Latia Duncombe and senior tourism officials, who will participate in a series of meetings and working sessions throughout the program.
Duncombe emphasizes that The Bahamas’ involvement with UN Tourism reflects the country’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and long-term growth.
“These engagements provide an important platform for advancing initiatives that support the future development of tourism while strengthening regional and international cooperation,” she said.

The outcomes of the meetings are expected to contribute to ongoing efforts to position The Bahamas as a leading voice in tourism policy and development across the Americas and beyond.
