Long before Apple finally showed the Vision Pro to the public for the first time on June 5, 2023, it was an open secret that the company was working on a VR/AR headset. The Vision Pro finally came onto the market in spring 2024 – but due to two hurdles, only a few customers chose the headset. Firstly, the price of 4,000 euros was simply too high for many interested parties and secondly, there were and are very few use cases that justify a price in this region. Conflicting reports are circulating regarding the future of the headset: Most agree that Apple has significantly reduced the size of the Vision Pro team – but Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported several times that the company has not yet completely given up on the project and is working on new devices. However, others report that Apple is now focusing on smart glasses.
Black casing parts appeared
“LosiRoy8” has now published photos of housing parts of a previously unreleased version of the Vision Pro, which are completely black:

The pictures show the audio components, the power connection and the attachment of the lanyard. The parts shown look very similar to the current Vision Pro, apart from the housing color. “LosiRoy8” writes that the parts would come from the future “Apple Vision Pro 2”.
Origin unclear
How “LosiRoy8” got hold of the parts and whether they actually come from a future generation of Vision Pro is unknown. It is also conceivable that the images show parts from production tests of the first generation of the Vision Pro, as Apple often experiments with different housing colors during the test phase. It is also possible that these are parts of the cheaper “Vision Air” that is often rumored, which Apple may never bring onto the market given the low sales figures of the Vision Pro.
