There are certain details in jewelry that you only notice once someone points them out, and then you can never stop seeing them. The gold bead is one of those details. The construction is worth understanding because it explains why these pieces look the way they do. Gold beads of varying sizes are shaped using the lost-wax technique, then finished by hand. The larger spheres sit at the top of the ring, the finer ones beneath, a graduated composition that gives each piece a natural sense of movement. In the 1960s, the Twist pieces took the bead in a more sculptural direction, pairing it with coral, lapis lazuli and turquoise. From 1968, gold beads began framing the contours of the Alhambra pieces, which is where most people encounter them today without necessarily making the connection. The Perlée® collection, launched in 2008, was in many ways a formal acknowledgment of something that had been central to the house’s work for sixty years.
The new rings are designed to be stacked and combined — with each other, with the five-row Perlée rings introduced in 2022, with bracelets and other pieces from the collection. That layering logic is built into the aesthetic from the start. A single ring is refined and wearable. Three together, mixing metals or stones, become something more considered and personal.
There’s a quality to these pieces that is difficult to pin down precisely. They’re not minimal, but they’re not showy either. The gold beads give them a softness that more architectural jewelry doesn’t have. The stones add intensity without changing the fundamental character of the piece.
