Changes in the boardroom of a company raise hopes and fears about the direction in which the new person will steer the company. With the announcement that John Ternus will take over the CEO position from September 2026, speculation arises as to how the previous hardware boss will set other priorities, especially with regard to products that were not successful from the start – such as the Vision Pro. In an interview, Ternus gave insights into his assessment of the Vision Pro and sees great potential in a (unspecified) future. In conversation with Tom’s Guide, Ternus and Greg Joswiak answered questions for 25 minutes. About halfway through the interview, the three talked about Apple’s AR headset, the Apple Vision Pro. John Ternus began his answer with the assessment that we are currently in the very early stages of “spatial computing”. “We are super excited, the Vision Pro is an exceptional product,” said the Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering. He then quotes Joswiak sitting next to him as saying, “We reached into the future and pulled [die Vision Pro] into the present.”
Currently already fields of application
Currently, according to Ternus, there are already many usage scenarios in which Apple Vision Pro is successfully established – in medicine, for example, in the corporate environment and others. This will continue to grow. And there are already great experiences. He was particularly impressed by the result of the collaboration with the National Basketball Association (NBA): “Live streaming as an immersive video is a mind-changing experience.” Spectators were enthusiastic, they had the feeling of being there at the game – a completely different experience, said the designated Apple CEO.
No promises
As expected, the two Apple managers were not tempted to make any announcements or even hints about future products. Rumor has it that the company is already well advanced in the development of AR glasses – they are currently testing different designs for everyday suitability. This type of device may appear in just a year – according to Mark Gurman, Apple is planning a market launch for spring or summer 2027.
