Reports from the rumor mill suggest that the Mac mini is overdue for an update. Many sources assumed that Apple would update the Mac mini along with the MacBook Pro in March 2026 – but no announcement was made. Apple presented the current generation of the Mac mini with M4 and M4 Pro to the public on November 8, 2024 – and the next generation will have an M5 chip instead of the M4. No major, further changes are expected, as Apple only completely redesigned the Mac mini with the introduction of the M4 generation. In the past few weeks it has already been observed that the availability of the Mac mini and Mac Studio overall has declined sharply. Some models, especially those with a lot of RAM, will not be delivered by Apple for many weeks or not at all. Regarding the Mac Studio, Mark Gurman claims to have learned from Bloomberg that Apple has postponed the new generation of Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra to fall 2026 due to increased memory prices. Bloomberg did not provide any information regarding the Mac mini.
Mac mini with M4 no longer available
If you now look at the Apple Online Store, you will quickly notice that Apple has completely removed the Mac mini with M4 from sale without adding any name to it. The selected RAM and SSD configuration is irrelevant here, because all configurations with the basic M4 are no longer available. If you select the Mac mini with M4 chip, you will only see the message “Currently not available” in the Apple Store.
The Mac mini with M4 Pro is still available to a limited extent: with 24 or 48 GB, Apple specifies a delivery time of 9-10 weeks. The variant with 64 GB of RAM has no longer been available for purchase for two weeks.
New model coming soon?
Since Apple only included the basic model in the range, it is quite likely that the company will soon present the new generation with the M5 and M5 Pro chip to the public – and has not taken them out of sale due to high component prices. In the past, the company usually presented the new model generation within a few days when the previous generation was no longer available.
