Software update released: iOS 26.4.2 is here | News

When Apple tests new macOS versions on publicly accessible services, it can often take months before general release – major releases usually become noticeable in server statistics at the end of the year. The situation is different with iOS, as the updates usually only leave clear traces days before. This was exactly the case with iOS 26.4.2, as we had already reported in this article. The system update was now expected to be published this week. There is now a new system version for both iPhones and iPads. The Mac apparently comes away empty-handed – at least macOS 26.4.2 is not available at the moment.

Two bug fix updates within two weeks
Almost two weeks have passed since the last system update. 26.4.1 was necessary due to numerous bugs, including problems with the synchronization of iCloud content. However, other errors from 26.4 remained unchanged, including various display errors. In the general update description, Apple is once again very vague and does not comment specifically on the improvements. Instead, you will find the standard text that the company uses for most updates.

Also update for iOS 18
Not only iOS 26 received an update, Apple is also targeting users who are still on iOS 18. iOS 18.7.8 has also been released – which strongly suggests that the update also contains important security improvements.

Download and install
As always, the easiest way to update is to simply use the appropriate function in the system settings. As always, the usual note, because this fact always causes confusion: If the update cannot be seen, a little patience is simply required – not all update servers receive the new version at the same time.
