Kathmandu, Nepal – In a vibrant celebration of culture, spirituality, and community, the Nepal Tourism Board, in collaboration with Kathmandu Metropolitan City and the Seto Machhindranath Rath Yatra Management Committee, organized a special observation program for members of the diplomatic community and their families, offering a front-row experience of one of Kathmandu’s most revered festivals—the Seto Machhindranath Rath Yatra.
Held from the terrace of Panchakashmari Takiya near Jama Masjid in Ghantaghar, the event provided an exceptional vantage point to witness the centuries-old chariot procession, a sacred tradition deeply embedded in the cultural fabric of the Kathmandu Valley.
The Seto Machhindranath Rath Yatra, one of Nepal’s most significant religious festivals, is celebrated annually to invoke blessings for favorable weather, a bountiful harvest, and overall prosperity. The towering chariot carrying the deity Seto Machhindranath is pulled through the historic streets of Kathmandu by throngs of devotees, accompanied by traditional music, rituals, and an atmosphere charged with devotion and festivity.
The observation program aimed to promote Nepal’s rich intangible cultural heritage to the international community. Diplomats and their families were given the opportunity to immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of the festival, experiencing firsthand the deep-rooted traditions that continue to define Nepal’s identity.

Officials from the Nepal Tourism Board highlighted the importance of such initiatives in positioning Nepal as a premier cultural tourism destination. By offering curated experiences like this, the country seeks to showcase its living heritage and unique traditions to global audiences.
