Google tests Gemini app for Mac +++ GTIG documents another chain of attacks on older iPhones | News

Until now, Mac users had to use Gemini in the browser, while ChatGPT and Claude already offer their own macOS apps. According to Bloomberg, Google is now testing the Mac version with external beta users. In terms of content, the app should be visually based on the existing Gemini versions for iPhone and iPad. According to the report, the existing functions include web search, analysis of uploaded documents and conversation history.

Google also asks testers to try out functions for generating images, tables, diagrams, videos and music and also to provide feedback on mathematical questions and information evaluation. This suggests that Google sees the Mac app not just as a simple chat client, but as a broader interface for various Gemini tools. What is interesting is the reference to a function called “Desktop Intelligence”, which can supposedly access other Mac apps or the screen contents. According to the report, Google does not yet have a start date, but there is a lot to do before publication.

Google documents: “Coruna” is joined by “DarkSword” as an exploit chain
After Google documented several details about the “Coruna” exploit chain a few weeks ago, Apple released security updates for older systems (iOS 16.7.15 and iOS 15.8.7). In particular, this was intended to close kernel and WebKit vulnerabilities that were exploited in Coruna. Now another, similar attack chain is coming into focus, which, according to Google’s Threat Intelligence Group, goes by the name “DarkSword”. The process is very similar to Coruna; the exploit was primarily used on targets in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Malaysia and Ukraine.

Based on the details published so far, there is much to suggest that the specifically documented DarkSword chain for the known affected versions is also closed. Apple makes it particularly clear that you should urgently install the recently introduced security updates if you are still using old system versions. A separate support document was created for this purpose.
