John Ternus serves as head of hardware at Apple and is now considered one of the most important people in the company – to the extent that he is now seen as the most likely successor to Tim Cook when he steps down one day. In an interview with ABC News following the recent product launch, Ternus spoke about the new MacBook Neo, the role of Apple Intelligence and the company’s long-term strategy. Of course, he was also asked about the CEO issue, but as expected he answered evasively: Ternus avoided the question and instead emphasized how much he valued his current role and how much he enjoyed working with the Apple team on new products. According to Ternus, Apple saw the MacBook Neo as an opportunity to reach significantly more people than before. Despite the low price, the device still offers the typical features of a Mac, namely solid workmanship, reliability and longevity. So the bar is pretty high, he adds – and that’s why we waited so long until the goals could be combined. The striking colors of the MacBook Neo were intended from the start. Apple’s designers had the opportunity to create a truly expressive product.
Apple Intelligence
In the interview, Ternus also spoke about the role of artificial intelligence. Apple Intelligence will be further expanded in the future and integrated into more and more functions, such as automatic translations or image enhancements. The aim is for users not to consciously perceive the technology, but simply to benefit from new functions. When the editor mentions that many customers are concerned about Apple’s possible AI lag, Ternus replies: “We have always focused on delivering the user experience” – although the answer is a bit lame, because the user experience of Apple Intelligence is often considered a point of criticism.
