AI startup Anthropic now worth 380 billion – Peter Thiel also invested

US AI company Anthropic has closed a new round of financing worth $30 billion.

US AI company Anthropic has closed a new round of financing worth $30 billion. The startup is now worth $380 billion, making it one of the most valuable private tech companies in the world.

What Anthropic is

Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees and has large AI models and the chatbot Claude. The company positions itself primarily in the enterprise segment and in the area of ​​AI-supported programming. Customers include both startups and large corporations – according to the company, eight of the ten largest Fortune 500 companies now use the technology.

Who invested

The round was led by investment firms GIC and Coatue. Co-leads include: DE Shaw Ventures, Dragoneer, Peter Thiels Founders Fund, ICONIQ and MGX.

Overall, a real crème de la crème of the global investor landscape took part, including: General Catalyst, Lightspeed and Accel. The round also includes shares from previously announced investments from Microsoft and Nvidia.

Key sales and growth figures

Anthropic only achieved its first sales less than three years ago. Since then the business has been growing extremely quickly:

  • $14 billion in revenue on a run-rate basis
  • more than 10x growth per year over the past three years
  • Number of customers with over $100,000 in annual revenue: increased 7-fold in one year
  • Customers with over $1 million in annual revenue: increased from about a dozen to over 500

The programming product Claude Code is growing particularly dynamically:

  • $2.5 billion run-rate revenue
  • Sales have more than doubled since the beginning of 2026
  • Weekly user numbers also doubled
  • Around 4 percent of all public GitHub commits are now said to come from Claude Code

With the new billions, Anthropic wants above all:

  • Advancing research on new AI models
  • Expand enterprise products
  • Expand infrastructure and computing power

Claude already runs on all three major cloud platforms: AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure.
