Sewing DIY Easter baskets - with an Easter bunny face and floppy ears

I sewed these cute Easter baskets for my two boys and three other cool kids. Now they can all go hunting for Easter eggs and other small gifts with such a cute little helper. Maybe you would like to quickly conjure up a basket like this – or you can just save the idea for next year. The Easter basket is quick to sew, easy to customize and also a great gift idea! Here you can find all the details: the free pattern, the template for the Easter bunny face and what else I used and learned.

I came across the idea when I was watching Nastja’s sewing news February 2025. Nastja / DIY Eule shows new products and trends related to sewing every month in this format. The Easter overview page from Stoffe Hemmers was briefly displayed and I immediately fell in love with this Easter basket with a bunny face and cute floppy ears! So quickly downloaded the e-book and continued planning.

First I chose different pieces of fabric and combined them. Great project for very small fabric scraps! Of course, the children also had their own ideas and color preferences. For the outer material I usually chose a firmer material and reinforced it with Vlieseline Decovil Light. I picked out muslin fabrics for the inner baskets.
For the bunny face, this plotter file is linked in the instructions for the Easter basket – also super cute! But I preferred closed eyes or a look downwards and once again I found what I was looking for in Cricut Design Space. The file I liked the most is actually from DIY Eule too. I saved the project for you here.

And this is what I used:

The trickiest part of sewing for me was sewing the side panel and bottom – there’s just so much straight stretch that needs to be curved. The first attempt looked really bad and I had to use the seam ripper again. What made it easier: Cut the side part with lots of small cuts on the seam allowance and stretch them apart with your fingers. So I was able to put things together much more neatly and it turned out to be a well-rounded affair.
The inner baskets were always a little too big – I sometimes sewed in a hidden little fold.

The collected works… I think the Easter baskets are all really cute and I’m really looking forward to the kids going on an egg hunt with them! The pompom tail is also a real highlight.
