Sunday Hike close to Zurich
EN • We started early in Walenstadt, the gateway to the eastern shore of Lake Walen, and immediately felt the fresh mountain air. With our baby safely carried in the carrier, we took the winding trail upwards. Surrounded by lush meadows, cows and the scent of alpine herbs we saw the distant sparkle of the lake below.
EN • Our starting point was Walenstadt, idyllically located on the eastern shore of Lake Walen. With our daughter in the carrier, things went straight uphill. Passing green meadows, fragrant herbs and cows, we again had a view of the deep blue water below us.


EN • The climb to the Paxmal rewarded us with jaw-dropping views – rugged cliffs, rolling green slopes, and the deep turquoise of the Walensee shimmering in the sunlight. At the summit, we enjoyed a well-earned break, sharing snacks while our little one giggled at the fluttering grass.
EN • At the top of Paxmal, a panorama awaited us that we won’t soon forget: rocky peaks, gentle alpine pastures and Lake Walen, sparkling in the sun. We took a leisurely break, enjoyed small snacks and the moment while our little one played happily in the grass.


Ending the day with a dip in the lake
EN • After the descent, the trail led us straight to the lakeshore, where we cooled our tired feet – and eventually our whole selves – in the refreshing mountain water. The perfect ending to a perfect day. Whether you’re hiking solo, with friends, or carrying your baby like we did, this route proves that you don’t have to go far from Zurich to find unforgettable outdoor experiences.
