Compared to One Piece, whose average arc is about 50 to 100 episodes long, Shangri-La Frontier rounds up an arc within a dozen episodes. Because of its fast pace, SLF trades in-depth character exploration for a quick dose of entertainment, which works in favor of anyone who is looking for a dose of instant gratification. Shangri-La Frontier might not be as grand as One Piece, but it’s also not thousands of episodes long, and it delivers an appropriate amount of exciting content within its time limit of 50 episodes.

One Piece’s protagonists have tasted their fair share of defeats, which creates the anime’s high stakes, but TenSura refuses to delve into such realism, preferring its protagonist to bulldoze every threat with his overwhelming powers.
One Piece, at its core, is anti-authoritarian, which it conveys through actions rather than words. Whereas Tensura is very vocal about its ideologies, and it has evolved from a regular action fantasy to a refined political drama. While One Piece is an exhausting waiting game with a payoff at the end of a long arc, Tensura is the exact opposite, and its instant-gratifying plot progression makes it a perfect anime to binge-watch on the weekends.
Dandadan Is Absurd, Hilarious and Surprisingly Profound

Dandadan is a whirlwind of action and comedy with a tinge of emotionally devastating moments. From aliens and spirits to supernatural powers, Dandadan has it all, yet it manages to make some time for a refreshing romance that reminds one of awkward high school crush moments.
Dandadan and One Piece share a striking similarity with their cast of characters, both having a bunch of nutjobs who, besides their undying loyalty, are dangerously unpredictable. Dandadan addresses many underlying issues of One Piece, one of them being its painfully lengthy arcs. Meanwhile, in Dandadan, arcs are brief. As for storytelling, Dandadan rediscovers itself as a shonen anime compared to One Piece’s monotonous nature that hasn’t changed since the past couple of decades.
Frieren Is a Tale of Epic Adventure Which Has Heart in the Right Place

Frieren and One Piece operate on two different wavelengths of shonen anime. Both series share an undying love for adventures and are brilliant fantasy anime. Unlike One Piece, which follows a familiar trope of embarking on an adventure to find a treasure, Frieren starts a new journey years after her party has already defeated the demon king.
When her friend passes away from old age, Frieren questions her lack of empathy, and to address this, she embarks on a journey with a brand-new party of members who are at least 1000 years younger than her. In Frieren, the characters’ goal isn’t to find some treasure, it is to rediscover themselves, find their purpose, get to know each other, and become each other’s strengths in a journey without end. Animated by Studio Madhouse, Frieren is a character-driven story where the mundanity of life drives the plot forward at a leisurely pace with the occasional spectacle of magical warfare.
Attack on Titan’s Take on Liberation Is Grounded in Moral Ambiguity

One Piece has morally ambiguous characters, but Attack on Titan takes them to an extreme with a protagonist who turns villainous. Instead of sticking to the formula of “good vs evil”, AOT blurs the line between heroes and villains. It also has a realistic portrayal of war and a never-ending cycle of hatred, with an ending that suits its dark tone.
In One Piece, taking down one tyrannical ruler solves the issue at hand, but AOT portrays how eliminating one oppressor simply passes the baton of hatred on to the next generation. AOT also showcases the subjugation and oppression of the Eldians with painstaking honesty. The journey to freedom turned into a catastrophe in the AOT anime, and it made viewers question if turning into an oppressor is worth the resulting freedom.
