2026 Is Officially The Start Of A Glorious New Era For Dragon Ball And One Piece

2026 has already been a big year for two of anime’s most successful franchises, Dragon Ball and One Piece. In January, the former announced a full-scale return of Dragon Ball Super, with a continuation of the 2015 anime currently in production, and a pseudo-remake set to begin airing later this year. The latter’s Netflix live-action adaptation returned for its second season in March, while its own remake by Wit Studio, titled The One Piece, is currently in production.
The company behind the two anime titans has also revealed the start of a new era, and it could mean big things for all titles involved. Toei, the parent company to Toei Animation, is a major presence not only in the anime industry, but in Japanese entertainment as a whole, producing and distributing major TV and film franchises like Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, and Power Rangers.
Now, Toei has announced it will be expanding into the video game industry, revealing the commencement of operations of Toei Games on the company’s official X account.
Toei Is Making a Major Move into Gaming

On Tuesday, April 21st, Toei alerted social media about the creation of Toei Games, as well as the company’s new but familiar pixelated logo. The company will reportedly begin by publishing PC titles, and the announcement of Toei Games’ first project is scheduled for April 24th. The initial lineup will consist of entirely new titles, and will not be using any of Toei’s existing IPs, which is in-line with the company’s stated goal of creating an all-new, successful IP.
However, that doesn’t mean Toei will not be exploring their own titles in the future, and there are plenty for the company to choose from. Toei Animation has been one of anime’s most important studios for decades, producing hits which include Dragon Ball, One Piece, Sailor Moon, Digimon, Slam Dunk, and many more.

The Dragon Ball franchise’s next anime is set to cover material not many fans want, while One Piece fans are gearing up for something much bigger.
Anime games have been on the rise as of late, with Dragon Ball, in particular, scoring more than a few hits across different platforms over the last decade or so. It appears Toei will focus primarily on kickstarting its own original works, though the comany’s own well is deep should they decide to visit already successful franchises. For some time, however, many of Toei’s biggest titles have had games published by another company.

For decades, many of the biggest anime games have been developed and published by Bandai Namco, including those based on Toei Animation titles. In fact, Bandai Namco’s highest earning mobile game in 2024 was Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle, which has reportedly earned a staggering nearly $4 billion since its release in 2015.

These mystical orbs would grant the wish of any who gathered them together. Then, the series would branch off into the immensely popular Dragon Ball Z, which followed Goku as an adult and featured high-intensity battles and Goku’s never-ending search to be the strongest. The series has also enjoyed several popular video game adaptations and continues to release several new animated series and theatrical films up to the recent popular Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
