Ace’s Death Drained the Hope Out of One Piece
One Piece fans were happily enjoying Luffy’s antics, the vast worldbuilding, and the political intrigue till the Marineford Arc. Everyone wholeheartedly thought that Luffy was bound to save Ace, especially with so many powerful pirate crews coming together for a joint effort. So when Akainu’s flaming fish suddenly emerged through a gaping hole in Ace’s chest, the world came to a standstill.
Ace died with a smile on his face, but Luffy and the rest of One Piece fans were left utterly broken. Luffy froze in his place, and so did every person watching the show. The world is full of suffering, but some people just want to watch it burn, and K-ON!, an otherwise light-hearted anime, shows the exact moment that broke the hearts of every viewer ever. The sole piece of strawberry on a cake is a holy boon that everyone savors with their whole heart. So when Tsumugi stole Mio’s strawberry from her slice of cake, Mio’s reaction made every fan tear up.
The worst part about this scene is the fact that Tsumugi actually has two slices of cake on her plate while Mio only has one. As Tsumugi stole the fruit, Mio froze, and her eyes began to water up unintentionally. This is the type of anime moment that triggers memories of the same canon tragedy that everyone has faced at some point in life.
Banana Fish’s Final Letter Scene Is an Emotional Guillotine

For the entirety of Banana Fish, Ash and Eiji were glued together, staying beside each other through the roughest of times. Everything goes according to the plan: Dino Golzino is defeated, the Banana Fish conspiracy collapses, and Ash finally has the chance to join Eiji if he wants to.
However, when Ash is distracted by Eiji’s heartfelt letter, he is stabbed by a gang member. Instead of admitting himself into a hospital, Ash enters a library to finish Eiji’s letter, surrendering to death. After knowing all the struggles Ash endured since childhood, the finale of Banana Fish left a gaping wound that sent depressed fans into a daze for few days after finishing the anime.
The Team Meal After Karasuno’s Defeat in Haikyu!! Hits Hard

Karasuno’s volleyball team lost to Aoba Johsai during the third round of the Miyagi Spring Qualifier semifinals in Haikyu!!. It was a heavy loss due to multiple factors, but it only became emotionally devastating during the team lunch that followed afterward. As Ukai decides to treat the team, none of them could swallow a morsel of food, which resonated with the anime’s audience.
However, both Ukai and Takeda tried their best to cheer up the team. As the team realized the importance of keeping up their strength, what followed was a silent but tearful dinner. It was a scene that could bring even the toughest of fans to their knees.

Naruto is a character who is always energetic, no matter what. However, when he learned of the death of a man who was the closest to a father figure, Naruto’s grief for Jiraiya took over his usual cheerful manner. As Naruto headed back, his figure resembled a walking dead man. Naruto lost the only person with whom he was vulnerable enough to show his real self.
Jiraiya’s death was already a brutal blow to the audience, but when Naruto got so unnaturally silent, it began to feel like the end of the world itself. The protagonist could neither sleep nor eat, and even when he bought a twin popsicle, he could only let it melt to the ground. It was almost as if the light of life had been sucked out of Naruto.
Hunter x Hunter Made a Villain’s Last Moments Into a Tearjerker

Meruem is the ultimate biological weapon in Hunter x Hunter and a powerful villain, and logically speaking, everyone should have hated the character. Yet, when Meruem is poisoned by the Poor Man’s Rose, and he returns to play one last game of Gungi with Komugi, fans can’t help their endless tears.
Despite knowing the poison was contagious, Komugi continued to keep Meruem company, even when he went blind and passed away in her lap. Komugi held his hand as he closed his eyes for the last time, and followed him right after. This was one of the most scarring scenes of the anime, which made fans take a breather.
Setsuko’s Cremation In Grave of the Fireflies Made Fans Lose Faith in Humanity

Grave of the Fireflies is nothing but a weapon loaded with traumatizing moments. Taking place in the final months of World War II, the renowned anime movie follows Seita and Setsuko, two siblings who have lost everything to firebombings. Their mother’s body is unrecognizable, their home and belongings are destroyed, and the children themselves starve to death.
Yet, nothing could prepare the audience for the severe malnutrition and eventual death of the sweet angel, Setsuko. As Seita cremates her tiny body, he also buries his own will to live, as well as the souls of every viewer. Words cannot describe the sheer torment that accompanies this Grave of the Fireflies scene.
While Kousei plays his final and most soul-baring performance of his life, Kaori dies in an operating room in Your Life in April. The anime doesn’t just sync Kaori’s final moments with Kousei’s piano performance; it also shows a scene where Kousei reads Kaori’s letter, which reveals that she has always loved him.
Kaori never wanted to burden Kousei with her declining health, but as she left, Kousei’s life became colorless once again. The letter scene in Your Lie in April is infamous among the anime community, and for good reason.
The Final Roll Call in Assassination Classroom Wrecked Fans

Assassination Classroom offered a spectrum of emotions through its plot, but the final roll call of Class 3-E by Koro-sensei will always be one of the most crushing moments in the history of anime. When Koro-sensei realizes that there is no other way to save the world than to let himself get killed by his own students, he does a heartbreaking last roll call.
As Koro-sensei called out the names of his beloved students one by one, tears streamed down the faces of both the teacher and the students. Of course, fans can’t help but join in with their own fractured hearts. Once the attendance is over, Nagisa stabs Koro-sensei, watching as the one person who changed their lives for the better dissolved into light.
The Flame Hashira’s Sacrifice In Demon Slayer Made Everyone Cry Without Exception
Kyojuro Rengoku, the Flame Hashira, won over Demon Slayer fans with his fierce bravery and kindness. Unfortunately, in the span of a single anime movie, Rengoku not only captured fans but also rendered them broken. After his inspiring battle against Akaza, Rengoku ends up fatally wounded and spends his final moments encouraging Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke.
Despite knowing that it was a losing battle, Rengoku never backed out of the fight. Even during his final moments, he chose to be optimistic for the sake of his juniors and left a desperate final message for his father. Watching someone as tough as Inosuke break down into tears was the final nail in the wall.
